On her birth certificate, my mum was given the name Joan. Her biological mother was Helena Sylvia Davis from West Ham. Unfortunately, Helena left the name of the father blank on the birth certificate, so we do not have any information about the biological father. We know that Helena came from a family of drapers and she went on to move to America. Both Helena and my mum’s adopted family were Ashkenazi Jewish. As far as we understand, the adoption was arranged by Dr Townsley (spelling). We are unsure if the biological father even knew my mum existed but we are hoping we could find out who he was and whether my mum has any other family alive today.
