781. Lucybear : My ex-husband John Paul Betteridge‚ now deceased was formally adopted in 1953 by his adoptive parents‚ Joan & Jack (John Henry) Betteridge. His name at birth was listed in the official document as Frank Weber where it also stated without the name of his birth mother‚ where she consented to give up her rights. His new legal name at adoption was John Paul Betteridge. He was born on May 25‚ 1951‚ at Vancouver General Hospital. Joan had told me that they brought him home from the hospital at 14 days old. The official adoption took place later on. Paul passed away from a massive heart attack in March of 2010 in Abbotsford‚ BC.
We have two daughters who would love to know if they have any aunts or uncles‚ any family at all on his birth family side. They are now in (2022)‚ 44 and 48 years old living in the Vancouver lower mainland and are mothers themselves. They have both done their DNA tests. I have another reason for this search and that is that there may have been a Brother or Twin brother and that is mainly who we’d like to find if he exists. There were always hints during his life that a brother existed‚ but intuitively I feel it had to be a twin. His adoptive parents never wanted to discuss the adoption so it was extremely hard to find information because they hid it. His adoptive father passed away in 2015 at 95 years old and his adoptive mother is now deceased in 2021‚ just before her 101st birthday.
There is a nagging sensation that there is a twin brother ... and it would be wonderful to know if he indeed exists. Paul used to speak of a brother like he knew him‚ (like a twin does) although he was brought home from the hospital as a newborn‚ ... he was never in our lives‚ and if he existed‚ was never spoken of. Paul had a younger adopted sister as well and she knows there was not another sibling ever living with them and they were only two years apart. I met them when I was 14 and no brother then either. If I remember anything else‚ I’ll come back and edit. Thank you. My name is Joy and I married Paul on March 21‚ 1972‚ also in Vancouver.
Thank you to anyone who can relate to this information. Blessings.

In the mid to late 1990’s I opted to keep my adoption file sealed at the time.
I now have a son‚ 15 years old‚ and have been interested in finding my birth parents for years. I am not even certain if my father was listed on any forms. The times were so different in the 60’s than today. I was adopted by a loving family‚ and have no complaints. Curiosity has been on my.mind for years. My life struggles and the journey I have taken to get well‚ and be the best mum‚ to my son‚ has prompted this inquiry. My adopted parents are Donald H C Paterson‚ and since deceased mother Joan J Paterson. We have remained in Vancouver my entire life. I am 52 now.
