Scotland's People list the reference as 424 / 996 and I have a copy of a birth certificate that indicates that the Registrar was recording a child to be‚ or who had been‚ adopted immediately or very soon after birth. The mother shared the same surname and had a very similar first name‚ and the mother was the only family member mentioned on the certificate.
