My father was the third child adopted by my Grand parents‚ Gerald & Mary Redmond who lived in Glen Margaret‚ Nova Scotia. All three children were from separate biological parents. My Uncle Shaun‚ Aunt Carla and my father Darrin M. Redmond.
This was not a private adoption. I know it was done through an agency‚ but I believe it was a closed adoption‚ meaning the parent(s) of my father and/or my grandparents chose not to continue contact with each other or provide updates of the baby adopted.
I believe I was told that my dad was adopted around the age of 1‚ but i cannot be sure. I don't have the names of his biological parents. But I know his government birthdate is April 29‚ and pretty sure it's 1967.
Though‚ my father has no interest in knowing his birth parents‚ I do. I would like to know the story. I would like to know some history and lineages. I am not a judgmental person. I just remember from a young age once I found out that my father was adopted‚ I have ALWAYS been curious.
My grandfather who raised my father‚ is now 94‚ I believe. And we see him quite regularly. I am a Redmond‚ through and through! Meeting someone who gave birth to my father would not change this pride. But‚ there's a piece of me that is something else. A piece I would very much like to know and be able to name.

What I know is my grandmother was from Cape Breton and had my mother at 16 years old on march 21 1960. She had 6 full siblings 4 sisters‚ one brother and a sibling that died 2 days after childbirth. Her mother died giving birth at the age of 45. Her father was then 63 and was a retired miner.
The father was 18 and worked as a miner at the time of the adoption‚ he may not of been told of the pregnancy.

He was born in the early hours of July 10th‚ 1970‚ at Truro General Hospital in Nova Scotia. His adoption was arranged through Dr. Ross McInnis and the paperwork was processed by the Truro Courts.
His given first and middle name at birth was Maxwell Stanley‚ though it was likely changed during the adoption process.
As Dr. McInnis was a family friend of the adoptive couple‚ years later he offered my mother some comfort by suggesting that my brother may have attended a university in Nova Scotia and possibly achieved athletic success during that time (approximately 1988 to 1992‚ depending on the program and any gap years).
Please‚ no judgments—my mother was extremely young and faced immense pressure and threats to surrender her child.
