871. NaasCoetzee1977 : As far as I know‚ my husband was born Petrus Johannes Kraak in Pretoria. His biological mother was only 14 years old when she fell pregnant and was also in the welfare system.
After his birth‚ she tried to raise him herself‚ but having come from a broken home herself and being so young‚ she struggled to take care of him on her own‚ and decided that the best thing for her child was for him to be in a family who would properly provide and take care of him.
This decision was apparently incredibly difficult for her.
I unfortunately do not have any more information than that.
872. JudySlattery : I'm helping my mom look for my brother who was given up for adoption in 1983. Her name at the time of the adoption was Barbara Edworthy (now van Dalen). The details that I have on the adoption are as follows:
Baby Jacques Edworthy‚ born on the 25th of August 1983. Born at the Boksburg/Benoni hospital. At that time it was known as the Transvaal Provincial hospital. The pediatrician that saw him the day after he was born was Dr. Wim Briede. He now works at the Sunward Park Netcare in Boksburg. My mom's GP was Dr Barnard‚ who now has a practice in Farrarmere Benoni.
Mrs Hefer of the Christelike Maatskaplike Raad in Benoni handled the adoption‚ her office was on the Cnr of Howard and Park streets in Benoni.
My mom was unmarried at the time of adoption. She was a member of the Barlow Rand Medical aid (member number 50-20930-1) and worked at a company called Ropes and Mattings.
I'm not sure where his adoptive parents were from‚ I only know that the letter my mom received was in Afrikaans‚ and that they flew to Johannesburg to collect him.

I was matched with my birth mother just minutes after setting up my profile. It turns out that she had been searching for me for years. It's been a joy to connect with her and the rest of my biological family.
