24. JudydeKlerk : I’m looking for my brother who was given up for adoption by our birth mother, Barbara Edworthy (now van Rooyen). The details that I have on the adoption are as follows: Baby Jacques Edworthy, born on the 25th of August 1983. Born at the Boksburg/Benoni hospital. At that time it was still a Transvaal provincial hospital. The paediatrician that saw him the day after he was born was Dr. Wim Briede. Mrs Hefer of the Christelike Maatskaplike Raad in Benoni handled the adoption, her office was on the Cnr of Howard and Park streets in Benoni. I’m not sure where his adoptive parents were from, I only know that the letter my mom received was in Afrikaans, and that they flew to Johannesburg to collect him.

I don’t have info of my town or hospital of birth‚ nor do I have the name of my biological mother. What I do know about her is that she was a second year medical student at Tukkies when she gave me up for adoption. I was adopted by Eric William Coombes and Elsie Sophia Coombes. Most family members that might have known something are all passed on. I lost contact with everyone when I left home at 13 years of age but kept contact with a few cousins and found family members again as my journey went on in life. (All in my adopted family) I found out about the adoption when my brother Warren Coombes passed on in 2011. We were both adopted but from different families. We also only found each other in 2008 after years being apart.
