A Few of Our Members Currently Searching Within Vermont Who Chose To Be Featured

316. U263934 : My father was born Sept. 28, 1950 in Austin, TX. He was white and his parents were white. There was the name of Albert Alsenz listed as his father but I think that might not be true. I am almost positive the mother was Alice Marie Lane Alsenz. Albert was born in 1911 in Brooklyn, NY and Alice in 1927 in Shandaken, NY. Both parents stated they had other children from other relationships either already adopted out or in foster care waiting for papers to be signed so they can be adopted. The only indication of where these children are is the mother said she had a child in foster care ’up east’ with the parents wanting to adopt the child which may have been a boy. The Alsenz’s lived in Austin, TX in 1950-1952 and in Kansas in 1956. The Kansas census has a Donald and a Jack Alsenz listed as being with them. I don’t think these were Alice’s children. I think they were the children of Albert and a Ruth Kniffen Alsenz Hartman Olsen now buried in New Orleans, and they were visiting with Albert and Alice, with Ruth being the person in charge of them. Let me know of any info, please, by sending a message.

317. ElizabethFortier : Olin Benjamin Fortier and his siblings (Oscar‚ Lois‚ and Marie) were placed in an orphanage in Burlington‚ VT sometime between 1910 and 1915. His mother was Mary Allen Savoy and his father was Frank Fortier (aka Frank Firkey‚ Francois Fortier). His mother remarried Don Leo Beardsley and had one son‚ and it’s possible she was still married to Frank at the time. The story is that she left Frank with the kids. It’s very possible they were left at St. Joseph’s Orphanage in Burlington‚ VT. There is no record of them in the Home for Destitute Children.

320. Jdecormier : I was born in Springfield Vermont on February 9th‚ 1975. I was adopted at approximately two weeks old from the Vermont Children’s Aid Society. My Birth mother at the time of my birth was almost 18‚ 5’5 tall‚ with blonde hair and blue eyes‚ and of Irish heritage. She was the youngest of four girls. My birth mothers mother had died of cancer when she was 3 years old‚ and her father was working in a management position in a factory at the time of my adoption. My birth mother dropped out of high school in the 10th grade because of family problems‚ and supported herself after that. Around the time of my birth she had received a scholarship to return to complete high school. My birth father was 18 with blonde hair and enjoyed music and athletics. He was the youngest of four siblings (2 older sisters and an older brother). At the time of my adoption his father worked in a machine tool factory‚ and his mother was an RN at a local hospital (she once had a brain hemorrhage). At the age of four my birth father was diagnosed with cancer‚ and had a kidney and part of his liver removed. My birth parents were together at the time of my birth (made the decision together). "Both visited‚ took pictures‚ and said their goodbyes to Jennifer before she was discharged (February 20th) from the hospital. Vermont Children’s Aid Society has not heard from the birth parents since."

327. Angelaxr7 : My brother was born on 7/2/1976 and was taken from my mom on 7/3/1976 as part of a black-market adoption ring common during that era in San Francisco‚ CA. The baby was taken from my 14 year old mom as she was a runaway at the time. She was released from the University of California San Francisco Hospital (San Francisco County). My mom was initially allowed to see the baby (left unattended in a portable crib by her hospital bed). The next morning‚ a hospital employee informed her that her baby had died. They would not allow her to see her baby again‚ and when she asked about the burial‚ the nurse told her it was against the rules and that her child would instead be buried in mass grave. They had her sign some form resembling a "contract" that she didn’t understand. A few years ago‚ I happened to cross paths with a retired RN who happened to work in the SF area during those years with her husband who was a physician. She was quite familiar with‚ and apologetic for‚ the unfortunate practice of black-market adoptions at those hospitals‚ during that era. She was a wealth of information and informed me that we are possibly looking for a child with a birth certificate filed within a few days of 7/2/76 with the generic name "Baby Boy" on the birth certificate. The retired RN I spoke with mentioned that the hospital staff would not have filed a false death certificate for these types of situations due to the legal implications of filing a false death record. On May 27‚ 2022 - We confirmed with the vital records office in San Francisco that there is a certificate of live birth but no death record exists for my brother which confirms he did not die in the hospital on July 3‚ 1976 and that the hospital indeed lied.
