288. DeborahG25 : My Mum was born in York in 1949 and was adopted. She never knew her adoptive mother and believed it was because of the stigma of unmarried mothers at that time and was accepting of this. She had a happy childhood with her adoptive parents and brother. She unfortunately died of cancer aged 32 leaving two children behind myself and my brother. I was curious of our family history initially for health reasons but with 23&me I discovered I was half Dutch which would indicate my mother was of 100% Dutch origin, specifically South Holland. I always felt it would be best left alone and not to look for my Mum’s family given they may not know she was born or the news of her death may be too much. Over time I have wondered whether there is a family member who really wants to know so this is why I am posting on here.
