My parents were from the Brampton/Wombwell area of Barnsley and would have been living in Staincross when they adopted Julie. They already had another adopted daughter‚ Alison (birth name Patricia Gibbons)‚ born in January 1962.

I was told at her birth that my parents her grandparents would be adopting her‚ so of course at nine I treated her as my little sister. My parents and I and my brother were to go on holiday for two weeks and my sister did not want to come and kept the baby home too.
