My parents were from the Brampton/Wombwell area of Barnsley and would have been living in Staincross when they adopted Julie. They already had another adopted daughter‚ Alison (birth name Patricia Gibbons)‚ born in January 1962.

I was told at her birth that my parents her grandparents would be adopting her‚ so of course at nine I treated her as my little sister. My parents and I and my brother were to go on holiday for two weeks and my sister did not want to come and kept the baby home too. When we returned my little sister had been adopted‚ there wasn’t even a toy left.
