His mother (my grandmothers sister-in-law) told him when he was little that his parents were dead, end of discussion. But he learned later that he was handed over in the back room of a restaurant on the island of St. Croix after William and Virginia Crawford (adopt parents) met the local superior court judge [at the restaurant] and answered some questions and filled out some paperwork. We have a birth certificate that has William and Virginia Crawford adopted him September 9, 1959, but he was born on September 9, 1952 at Municipal Hospital, Frederiksted, St. Croix Virgin Islands.
