Thelma Alice was adopted when she was between 6 and 10 years old. Or at least she was considered adopted as there are no formal adoption papers. She lived in an orphanage prior to being sent to Fairview‚ Utah to work at a cheese factory when she was about 6. She then was "adopted" by a couple by the name of Rasmussen. From DNA matches we believe her birth mother immigrated from Denmark in 1915 shortly before Thelma’s birth. We do not know how she came to be in a Utah orphanage.
