January 4 1987 Personal Reflection: A Life-Changing Decision My name is Gregg McGaha‚ and in November 1986‚ I enlisted in the military. Following boot camp and AIT at Fort Sill‚ Oklahoma‚ I was stationed at Fort Richardson‚ Alaska. Shortly after my arrival‚ I received a letter requesting my signature for the adoption of my unborn child. Unaware of the pregnancy‚ I felt overwhelmed and uncertain about how to proceed. With a commitment of at least two years in the military‚ I signed the adoption papers‚ relinquishing my parental rights. Thirty-eight years have passed since that life-altering decision. Recently‚ I've felt a deep-seated desire to reconnect with my son and share the circumstances surrounding his adoption. I'd like to establish contact and provide him with insight into the events that led to his adoption. During my time at Angelo State University (1984-1986)‚ I met his mother‚ Leigh Furlow. After exhausting my college funds‚ I enlisted in the Army to utilize the GI Bill and college fund to complete my education. My son was born on January 4‚ 1987‚ in Dallas‚ Texas‚ and was placed for adoption through the Edna Gladney Agency. Although I don't know his current name or details about his life‚ I've been informed that he was adopted by a stable family. At the time of adoption‚ his adoptive father worked as a supervisor at Walmart.
