I am looking for my birth mother. She stayed at the Homestead Maternity Home in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, TX while pregnant with me. I was born on September 12, 1964 at 5:13A at Harris Hospital and was adopted through the Homestead Child Placement Agency, which was associated with the maternity home. I have already located my birth father’s family. My father’s name was Herschel F. Gray, Jr. “Huck”. His father (my birth grandfather), Herschel, Sr., was a prominent physician in Little Rock, AR, who established Gray Memorial Hospital. My birth father was a resident of Little Rock, AR and a pre-med student at the time of my conception and birth. I believe that my birth mother may have also been a resident of Arkansas (perhaps lived in Little Rock) and she was sent to live at Homestead maternity home in Fort Worth, TX sometime in late 1963 or early 1964 when she discovered she was pregnant. My adoption paperwork indicates that my birth mother’s father was a retired Army officer and a “state coordinator”. The paperwork also lists my birth mother’s family name as “Bachman” but this is likely a false name “assigned” to my mother by the adoption agency to preserve her anonymity.
