My is Angelique Kitto/King. I’m 37 from Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Tribe (SWO) of South Dakota. My son was adopted to a family from Pierre South or surrounding area. They asked me to name my son. I gave him the name Cedar. His Father was Jason Shepherd who had passed away in 2023. Also from SWO. My pregnancy was unexpected. I was also grieving. I was happy‚ scared and lost all at once and made a decision I thought was best for my son at that time. I think about my dear son often. If his family loves him as much as I do. I miss someone I had only met for one day. I never gave myself a chance to get to know him. Tonight I cried for him and said a prayer like I alway do. I hope we met again. I love and miss you everyday. You siblings know of you now and we all wonders about you time to time. I pray you find in your heart to forgive me.. I hope you love your family I carefully picked them for‚ I wanted to have brown eyes‚ brown hair so you never felt different and wouldn’t question it‚ they also mentioned the worked close to some native family’s or children so you would have that interaction with your native roots.. I choose Name Cedar because of a Native creation story in beginning how Cedar tree will alway be green all year round and how Cedar is held close to us and kept sacred and used in ceremony.
