CharRH
Char was born Feb. 9, 1944 in South Dakota. She was relinquished, possibly along with several of her siblings, to, I was told, an orphanage in Redfield, South Dakota. Only I find no record of such place. Were there babies and children who were not disabled left at the State School there? The story is that Char’s parents fell on terrible economic times and relinquished her (with the next youngest siblings) to the place. My grandparents went to Redfield in search of a little boy to be a companion to my father but came home with baby Char instead. Her adoptive parents were Carl Rudolph and Bessie Irene Hillgren. If they brought her to Redfield, it would seem that she’s from the northeast/north Central South Dakota area. Mobridge springs to mind but I’m not sure about that. I also think if Huron, as the subject would come up when the whole family attended the state fair. This is all I know. If someone’s parents or grandparents had a baby sister or several siblings relinquished in early to mid 1944, I’d love to talk to you.
