On June 17‚ 1989 My sister gave birth to a baby girl at the Charleston Naval Hospital in Charleston‚ SC. I was present at the birth and spent the next day or so with my sister and her new baby. Since my sister was not in a stable position to take care of a baby and give her the best life possible‚ my mother and I encourage my sister to give her baby to a family that could give her the best life possible with all the opportunities for a future. It was the hardest decision‚ not only for my sister but for our entire family. This baby girl‚ we have always referred to as BETH‚ was my first niece and my parents first grandchild. It has been a long time but I know my sister as well as our entire family have never forgotten Beth. I celebrate her birthday every year and hope one day we can meet and maybe heal my sister’s broken heart.
