Hello Jocelyn My mother Joyce Eleanor Nicolson (born Edinburgh 1 March 1934) was training to be a nurse at one of the big teaching hospitals in London. She became pregnant to a young doctor who forgot to mention he was already married with children. The doctor did not stand by you mother. Eleanor’s parents were horrified when they found out about the pregnancy and they sent her to live in secret in a Church of Scotland home for Mothers and Babies in Glasgow. At that time mothers had to care for their babies for six weeks before ’voluntarily’ signing adoption papers. Eleanor adored you she fought and pleaded but she was given no choice she was forced to give you up. She always regretted not being tough enough to stand up to her parents and the church and fight to keep you. She was told you were adopted by a doctor and his wife. Her family then banished her to New Zealand on the other side of the world and told her not to return to Scotland. She trained to be a teacher and then married and very quickly had two babies. But absolutely nothing ever made up for the loss of you. Eleanor thought of you every day - she loved you very much and died still trying to find you.
