• Searching for female born Edna Gibson SMITH born 04 August 1919, Montreal, Quebec, Canada We are searching for SIBLINGS of my husband’s mother. We have good information about her (born Marjorie Smith 1925) but are seeking information on her sister and brother: ♀ Girl, born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on 04 August 1920, daughter of Alexander William Smith (1884-1932) and Emily Whiteman Smith (1888-1926). She was baptised and named EDNA GIBSON SMITH on 14 January 1921 at Victoria Presbyterian Church, Montreal. She was baptised again, along with her brother and sister, on 03 January 1926, at Chalmers United Church in Montreal. ♂ Boy, born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on 31 May 1921, son of Alexander William Smith (1884-1932) and Emily Whiteman Smith (1888-1926). He was baptised and named GORDON ALEXANDER SMITH, along with his two sisters, on 03 Jan 1926, in Montreal, at Chalmers United Church in Montreal. Records at the same church show their mother Emily died the month after the three children were baptised. ♥ More info: We are searching for siblings of my husband’s mother who was born MARJORIE SMITH on 27 May 1925 in Montreal, Canada, daughter of Alexander W. Smith (1884-1932) and Emily Whiteman Smith (1888-1926). Marjorie and two of her siblings (Gordon and Edna) were baptised on January 3rd 1926 at Chalmers United Church in Montreal, with both Alexander Smith and Emily his wife listed as parents. Emily died in February 1926 and her death/burial was registered at the same church. We have traced most of this information through Ancestry.ca as a paper with Marjorie’s birth parents names was found after Marjorie died. Marjorie was adopted by Charles and Edith Langlois, and baptised November 15, 1926 at the Portneuf Presbyterian Church, in Portneuf, Quebec. Using records on Ancestry.ca we have found the above info on the two siblings who were baptised at the same time as Marjorie, but have found nothing since their baptism, so we suspect they may also have been adopted. We don’t know if this was a formal/legal adoption or an informal adoption through the church. As Marjorie kept her birthdate and birthplace we suspect hr brother and sister will have also. We have been able to search back on Ancestry and learned more about Marjorie’s parents and their ancestors/siblings. Records do show two other siblings: a sister (first name unknown, possibly born 1914 in England and immigrated with Emily in 1919) and a brother James (born about 1921) but as we have found no further info on these two they may have died young. Thanks! Christine & Grant
