Searching for SIBLINGS of my husband’s mother: 1. Girl, born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on 04 August 1919, daughter of Alexander William Smith (1884-1932) and Emily Whiteman Smith (1888-1926). She was baptized and named EDNA GIBSON SMITH on 14 January 1921 at Victoria Presbyterian Church , Montreal. She was baptised again, along with her brother and sister, on 03 Jan 1926, at Chalmers United Church in Montreal. 2. Boy, born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on 31 May 1921, son of Alexander William Smith (1884-1932) and Emily Whiteman Smith (1888-1926). He was baptised and named GORDON ALEXANDER SMITH, along with his two sisters, on 03 Jan 1926, at Chalmers United Church in Montreal. My husband’s sister was born Marjorie Smith (27May1925) Montreal, Canada, daughter of Alexander W. Smith (1884-1932) and Emily Whiteman (1888-1926). Marjorie and two of her siblings were baptised on January 3rd 1926 at Chalmers United Church in Montreal, with their parents and birthdates listed. Records at the same church show their mother Emily died the month after all three children were baptised. Marjorie was adopted by Charles and Edith Langlois, and baptised at the Portneuf Presbyterian Church, in Portneuf, Quebec, on November 15, 1926. Using records on Ancestry.ca we have found that Marjorie had two siblings who were also baptised in January 1926 at Chalmers United Church in Montreal. We have found no further records on Marjorie’s brother or sister after their baptism, so we suspect they were also adopted. We don’t know if this was a formal/legal adoption or an informal adoption through the church. As Marjorie kept her birthdate and birthplace we suspect her brother and sister will have also. We have been able to search back on Ancestry and learn more about Marjorie’s parents and their ancestors. But we have found nothing on either her sister or brother. Records do show a sister (first name unknown, possibly born about 1914 in England) and a brother James (born about 1921) but as we have found no further records on them we suspect they may have died young. Thanks! Christine & Grant
