I was born in Brookline, Massachusetts at the Booth Hospital which has burned down. I was adopted through the Women’s Christian Alliance in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by Benjamin W. and Ellen Taylor Morris. In a letter dated February, 1953 it stated that my birth mother’s name is Delores Gaymon who worked for the telephone company at the time in Boston, Massachusetts. Both of her parents were deceased at the time. No information was given about my father other than that he was married and successful. The letter stated that my birth mother had finally agreed to release me to the Department of Public Welfare. My birth name was Cheryl Elaine Gaymon. When I was a child, I found a formula book with that name in my adoptive father’s drawer. My adoptive mother died in August, 1959 and my adoptive father died in 1965. My godmother, Elizabeth Anderson and her husband primarily raised me. I was told that my adoptive grandmother, Jennie E. Morris, who was a funeral director knew the director of the Women’s Christian Alliance and that’s how my adoptive parents were able to adopt me. I’ve done some research on Ancestry.com over the last 15 years to no avail. I even visited the Court House in Boston, Massachusetts but they had no birth or death records for Delores Gaymon. I discovered that Booth Hospital burned down years ago. Also, when I went to the adoption agency some years ago to see if I could obtain any information, they later told me that none of the records for that period could be found. I do know that my birth records are sealed very tight. I tried contacting the Orphans Court in Philadelphia, as advised by the clerk in Boston, Massachusetts. I filled out some paperwork but couldn’t go any further without having to pay fees. I would like to know if either of my birth parents are still alive and if I have any siblings or other close relatives. Also, because of my age I would like to obtain medical information about my birth parents and biological relatives so I can finally not be a blank slate when going to the doctor’s office. I did the Ancestry DNA test in 2018 and have discovered many cousins. I know that I am related to Adolphus Gaymon of Clarendon Co SC., Son was Herbert Gaymon whose son Rickie Gaymon is one of my highest matches just under 500 CM, 26 dna segments. Herbert Gaymon moved his family to North Carolina around High Point. Another highest match is Hezekiah Gibson Jr, son of Hezekiah Gibson Sr and Amanda Gaymon Gibson of Clarendon Co SC. at just under 500 CM, 25 dna segments. Hezekiah Gibson Jr’s sister Amanda Gibson Sumter and niece Angela Sumter Jackson are also DNA matches. My cousin Cheryl Thompson McQueen is a match. Her mother was Betty Gaymon of Philadelphia PA, her uncles Jerome and Kendall Sr. Kendall Jr. is a match. Their father was Major Gaymon and aunt Louise Gaymon Simon both born in Clarendon Co SC. Their parents were Frank and Mary Gaymon. Hezekiah Gibson Jr’s sister Martha Gibson married a Ridgill and moved to Ohio. August 2019 I went to my first biological family reunion. GGMR Family Reunion in Daytona Beach FL. First time meeting everyone there. Thank you for any help you might be able to give me. Everyone that might have been able to help me get information has died. I’ve waited a long time.
