I wrote to Lycoming Children and Youth Services in Williamsport, Pennsylvania (the agency that handled my adoption) requesting information. They told me to request non-identifying information from the Lycoming County Court, Judge Clinton Smith’s office. His office sent me a packet of info, saying they also initiated a search for my parents & noted that my birth father was never identified. (I do know he was 22 years old & not from the area). The letter I received indicated that Children & Youth was authorized to view file #3021, in which my birth mom relinquished parental rights. This document says that my birth mother was unmarried and resided in PA. (Address blacked out.) Her birth date is February 2, 1958. 18 at time of my birth. Caucasian. Protestant. Refused to name father. Lycoming County Children’s Services had the care of me from May 10, 1976 to date of doc. Birth mother had light brown hair and blue eyes & was 5’ 1", and birth father had brown hair and blue eyes and was 5’8". Court summary Mother was resident of Florence Crittenton during pregnancy. One of 6 children. Only her mother knew of her pregnancy. While at Florence Crittenton, she received home-based instruction and, following my birth, graduated from High School. On June 2, 1976, before Judge Thomas Raup, she relinquished rights. Caseworker: Harriet Poechmann Court summary regarding child Discharged May 11, 1976. Placed in agency foster home (& named Carrie). On June 2, 1976, I was released for adoption... & placed in my adoptive parent’s home on June 18th. My original birth certificate: Date of birth: 5/7/1976, 6:15 PM, Williamsport, PA Lycoming County. Filed 5/17/76 / Issued 6/16/76 My name at birth that is on my original birth certificate is Shannon Lee (last name blacked out) Recently received my OBC and my BM’s name is Nancy Jean McConnell
