5-4-2019 I am doing genealogical research on my great‚ grandfather‚ Clarence Russell (Lord) Safford - B 7/19/1867 and D 1/20/1959. May father (James Clarence Safford‚ Jr. B 3/23/1928 & D 12/23/2016‚ spent much of his life searching for his ancestors. I recently had my brother‚ James Clarence Safford‚ III tested for the YDNA with Family Tree DNA (Kit#794295) We thought we knew that my dad’s great grandfather was Marvin Lord‚ born in Harford‚ Pennsylvania 1849-1876 and that his so‚ Clarence Russell Lord was adopted and became Clarence Russell Safford. Dad’s great grandmother was Sarah Justina Sanford‚ B 4/22/1849 D 1/11/1893. We had bee looking for Lord hits. The YDNA is strictly passed down through the males in your family. We were quite surprised when the results came in‚ to see page after page of Allen hits and no Lords! We are not sure that Clarence Russell (Lord) Safford was legally adopted. Somewhere in the family records it says that He "took the Safford name". Also in the family reocords it says that Marvin Lord left after the baby’s birth. So far‚ I have found Clarence Russell (Lord) Safford’s marriage license showing that the certificate was issued by the Clerk of Orphan’s Court of Wyoming‚ Pennsylvania. Also the 1870 Census record from Preston‚ Wayne County‚ Pennsylvania shows Clarence Lord living with his mother’s first cousin‚ Daniel Sanford and his wife Kate Allen Sanford. Next door to them is his mother’s uncle‚ Joseph Sanford‚ with Daniel’s other siblings. His sister‚ Lucretia Sanford is living with her father and married to Charles Allen. Sarah Sanford was living somewhere in the same town‚ but with her widowed mother. I am in Ancestry‚ 23andMe‚ and Family Tree DNA as Margaret Safford Canella I live in Louisiana. Although this may be out of your perameter because of the dates‚ I am desperately hoping that you may be able to help or at least point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance. Margaret Safford Canella
