My mother (adopted name Mary Silvia Raper) was adopted in December 1927 by Cecil Sylvanus Raper and Edna Browning Raper from Toronto after living with them from October 1926. Mary was born in Toronto General Hospital and her birth mother was an unmarried young Roman Catholic with connections to the Salvation Army. When she signed away her rights to her child her birth mother was living in Novia Scotia. The profile picture is of my mom shortly after she emigrated to the UK when she was 24. She met my father on the liner coming over here and they were happily married for 40 years before she died in 1991. I don’t know how much mom knew about the circumstances of her birth (she wouldn’t even tell my dad) and I know it distressed her deeply. I would love to learn more about my family’s history (good or bad) and to know more about my background too. The information I have received from the authorities in Ontario is heavily redacted and I do not know mom’s birth name. Claire - Mary’s daughter
