On April 4‚ 1980‚ a young woman gave birth to a healthy baby girl at Belleville General Hospital. (I believe she called her baby Holly Ann.) The young mother knitted a little sweater for her baby. The baby was given up for adoption. My husband and I adopted the baby through the Children's Aid Society. She‚ Jessie‚ grew up into an extraordinarily beautiful six-foot tall girl with heavy blond hair. She was very bright and loving‚ a university student. When she was eighteen‚ with our encouragement and blessing‚ she registered to be put in touch with her biological parents. She waited years to hear from them‚ having been told that the CAS had a long backlog for processing such requests. Sadly‚ Jessie was killed in a car accident before her name came to the top of the list‚ so her CAS application was cancelled before she found her biological parents. As the adoptive mother of my beloved child‚ I feel a duty to the biological family. I can't present her biological mother with her long-lost daughter. But I feel it is my duty to contact this mother‚ and her family members‚ to tell her the story of Jessie's life‚ and to share the many‚ many photographs we have of Jessie‚ and to answer questions. I have tried several times to find the mother. I even tried to hire private investigators to do a search. No luck. I have the little sweater‚ and I have Jessie's baby teeth‚ which can provide DNA‚ but the various search systems require the consent of the individual‚ consent that Jessie cannot give. Now I am afraid that I will die before I discharge my duty to offer Jessie's story to her biological family. I will be terribly grateful if you can help me‚ or if you can refer me to someone who will.
