When my mother died in 2017‚ I found some paperwork that indicated I had an older brother who was adopted two years before I was born. His name: Stephen Michael Lehtisaari. She had kept it a secret her entire life. The only people who knew were her parents (and maybe her uncle). Her sister didn't even know. Moments ago I listened to CBC's The Current podcast about Canada's decades long forced adoptions. This prompted me to Google the following question: Is anyone looking for their birth mother Constance Lou Lehtisaari? The answer: Yes‚ there is an active search connected to her. A post in the Ontario Adoption Reunion Registry indicates that a man named Stephen Michael Lehtisaari is looking for her. According to the listing‚ he was placed in a foster home through the Children's Aid Society and is trying to locate his birth mother‚ Constance Lou Lehtisaari. What I know: The birth and adoption took place in Toronto. Her son was placed in a foster home under the care and supervision of the Children's Aid Society of Metropolitan Toronto. It is difficult to read the signature on the placement 'Agreement Form' but it looks like the social worker's name is M. Altman. The signatures on this form are dated May 23 1969. We do not have an exact birth date listed so I assume this is his birth date? The Notice of Hearing (Form 10 of the Child Welfare Act‚ 1965) in the Provincial Court (Family Division) to the Corporation of the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto in the County of York was held before Judge M. Chambers at 311 Jarvis Street on Thursday June 26 1969 at 2:00pm. My mother changed her maiden name to Constance Lou Deblette when she married my father. This (and her death in February 2017) are possibly the reasons why he has not been able to find her. My mother has a sister and I have a sister‚ they both live in British Columbia. I live in Wakefield‚ Quebec and work in Ottawa. I am married with a daughter. He has family that wants to meet him and share everything we know. I think my heart grew a thousand times bigger today.
