My son is of mixed race‚ I was only 15‚ I was staying at a home for unwed mothers in Enid Oklahoma. Located in a local YWCA. My son was adopted at birth. His new family took him home the day he was born. I hoped my mother would get to the hospital before they left with him so she would have a chance to lay her eyes on him and that would make her change her mind‚ so I could keep my baby boy. But she didn’t . I chose a private adoption because I knew if I knew where he was and who he was with I would want and possibly try to get him back. But I wanted a good life for him and I know that wouldn’t be good for him. I was able to choose some aspects of the family he would go to. The only requirement I choose was that he be with a mixed family. One white and one black parent. So he could be taught of both his races. I left a letter in his file explaining how I was able to let him be raised by someone other than his parents. At his birth the nurse took a pic of him and gave it to me. He looked just like his biological father. He had his forehead.
