Julie was 21 years old and in the eighth month of her pregnancy when she came to The United Methodist Children’s Home the first time. She is described in the record as being a very good looking girl‚ pleasant to talk to and rather shy. As they got to know each other better her caseworker found her to be a loving‚ sensitive girl who showed a lot of courage and determination in handling her problems. Julie is 5’ 5" tall with brown hair and dark brown eyes. She had graduated from high school and worked for the court in her small home town. Both her father and mother were Irish and Julie was the youngest of five girls. All her sisters were married. At the time that Julie came to us she was living in Columbus with David who was 26 years old. He had been divorced for two years when Julie met him. He is described in the record as a nice appearing young man‚ 5’ 6" tall with dark brown hair. He had worked for the city where Julie lived but was out of work and hadn’t been able to get another job. There was American Indian in his background. There were no medical problems or allergies in either family and Julie had not used drugs. David and Julie had moved to Columbus and were very hard pressed for money and were not going to be able to finance medical or hospital care on their own. They were having differences and a lot of the time were not getting along. They had talked about getting married but were beginning to feel that their relationship might not last. Julie felt her baby would suffer if this happened and was considering adoption because she preferred that her baby have an established‚ happy home. Actually David and Julie did separate before the baby was born. When David came in to sign the papers he was cooperative and expressed his love and concern for Julie and said he hoped they would get back together. One of Julie’s sisters was with her when the baby was born and her family were very supportive. Julie moved back home after the baby was born and was hoping to go to college.
