Hello‚ I have been searching for my birth father for many years now‚ I am in contact with my birth mother. I was given a name of David Eastridge or Estridge‚ unsure of the correct spelling‚ and I do have one photograph of him from New Year’s Eve 1967‚ he would have been around 20 -22 y.o. maybe. At the time‚ my birth parents were living in the Washington‚ D.C. area‚ but my mother went to stay with her parents in Fayetteville to have me at Duke Univ. Hospital in Durham‚ NC. I was told. My adopted parents died when I was in my teens before I was given the opportunity to learn any information about my adoption situation except that my adoption was done through a private law firm and arranged before my birth with the help of my birth mother’s parents. I was told by my adopted mother that there is no record of the adoption taking place because it was done by a private law firm‚ and my adoptive parents are who are printed on my official N.C. state birth certificate as birth parents‚ although this is incorrect information‚ and I have had DNA testing completed to verify this. My adopted mother also told me that legally the adoption was not allowed to take place until an infant was 3 months of age‚ so that is the official time frame of my adoption‚ but that leads me to believe that surely there must be a North Carolina record of adoption someplace‚ or maybe it was in D.C.‚ VA.‚ or MD? I have been in contact with my birth mother‚ but she did not remember much and died in 2023. My birth mother’s name on the adoption papers would have been C. Burns. If my father does not want contact‚ that is fine‚ I do not want to cause any negativity or trouble for him or his family‚ but I think he should at least be given the opportunity. I simply would like to know the truth for once‚ to finally learn something about my ethnicity‚ and to give my father the chance to know that I have been looking for him if he is interested. Thanks
