My daughter was born in Rock Island County IL and placed in Foster care by her Mother within the first 2 years. I was aware of her birth but was not named on the birth certificate nor was I acknowledged by her mother, Debbie Ruark. I was contacted by a social worker from North Carolina and asked to take a paternity test. Tanisha was about 9 at that time and had been in a foster home for over a year with her older half brother Trevor. My understanding was that she was happy and doing very well. Her mother’s rights were being terminated and the foster parents wanted to adopt her. I signed over my rights feeling that it was best for Tanisha. I was the hardest thing I ever had to do. I had asked if my information could be made available to her should she ever want it. I am not sure if that happened. I would love to meet her.
