Westcoaster
Our mom recently passed away and in some of her belongings we found some things referencing adoption- like an article from the Seattle Times about how hard mother’s day can be for mother’s who have given up babies for adoption. We also found some newsletters from the A.L.MA. society with a phone number to a local chapter on the west coast. My siblings and I had never any indication that my mom had been pregnant before having us (1977‚ 1979‚ & 1981). After showing my aunt the papers and asking if we had a sibling‚ with tears in her eyes she said she was sworn to secrecy. Eventually she told us that after highschool‚ our mom got pregnant by someone who worked at the Marina where her family kept their boats. Her family forced her to a home for unwed mothers in Manhattan New York (we believe). Her family was very elite and her father didn’t want their reputation tarnished so they sent her away to have the baby. They lived on Long Island. Our mom loved to sail. We’re not sure if the father of the baby even knew our mom was pregnant. Our mom’s family was Catholic and my mom went to a Catholic highschool. Maybe she was adopted through a Catholic Charity?? We think my mom was 18 or 19. Do we have an older sister somewhere? Our mom moved across the country so we’re not sure if the sibling stayed closer to NY or did they move?? Does she look like our mom?? What does she do for a living?? Does she have children?? Our mom spent her life helping children and families as a child care provider. Maybe because she had wished someone had been there for her when she was a teen mom. She may have even made contact but we don’t have any indication of that.
