My mothers final adoption papers were signed in May‚ 1940 and it was to our understanding that her birth records were sealed. I have been on the phone with the folks in New York who have indicated that we cannot see or have the records because we are not her siblings. My sisters and I are trying to find out who our biological grandmother was. There has been serious health issues in this family and we are trying to get this information. As well as finish the family tree. My mother was adopted by Josie M and Gus Christo and taken straight home from the hospital. I have since found that her name at birth is believed to be Elizabeth Ann Phelps. She was born at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn New York on July 15th‚ 1939. I believe that her biological mothers name was Ruth Phelps. Ruth's parents were Herbert William Phillips/Phelps and or Herbert Sherwood Phelps. She had a 1/2 sister who's name was Mary Ann Schaeffer. I am looking for her father as well and have no idea who he is.
