I recently discovered through DNA, a cousin I didn’t know I had. We have spoken with each other, and determined she is the daughter of one of my uncles, either Robert F. Schmitt or Vincent Schmitt, both of whom are deceased. She was adopted through New York Foundling in late 1947, having been born Feb 1, 1947. She was with a foster family for 9 months before adoption. She was given a name for her birth certificate which may or may not be her birth mother’s last name, Shannon. The father’s information was blank. Upon adoption, she was given a new birth certificate in her adoptive name of Macdonald and adopted through the Surrogate Court in Jamaica, Queens, New York.
