I was born July, 1942 in New York City’s Foundling Hospital and placed in the Foundling Orphanage in NYC. Because I have never been privy to information about my biological parents individual surnames, etc., I have utilized bits of data to make “an educated guess” to the following: -Biological parents were not married to each other, they had separate families -biological mother (approximate age at my birth 40) lived somewhere in the mid west of the US and went to New York City’s Foundling Hospital to have the baby father was approximately 54, walked with a limp and used a cane and may have been Canadian -although she gave up the baby to the orphanage from the hospital, I believe she tried to find a way to regain me/the child for she did not sign the final papers until some two + years after birth -New York State’s laws currently prohibit releasing adoption information (some years ago they almost passed a law to allow information to be shared but it failed) and my birth certificate only shows my adopted surname -New York Foundling Home are not able to provide much information. Fortunately I was adopted in 1945 by caring and loving “parents” the Viamonte’s, now both deceased, (my adopted surname) who lived at the time in New York City. The medical doctor they worked with was Dr. Cisneros (NYC). Three times, in my adult life, I have petitioned the State of New York to release any and all adoption records but to no avail. I am hoping to find any information about my ancestry—even if it just the surnames of parents, grandparents, relatives, genealogy charts, or someone in the family with similar interest, etc.—that might bring me closer. I realize that my time is growing shorter at this stage of my life but I am curious and willing to continue the search. Hoping and praying that you would be agreeable to help me on this journey.
