To whom it may concern, my name is Deborah Vernet and on September 9th, 2002 I gave birth to a baby boy. At that point in my life, I was in no way capable of caring and/or providing a stable home for my son so I contacted an adoption attorney (Steven G. Dubin, Esquire) who arranged the adoption. It was said to me that this was an open adoption. I was given profiles to view of potential adopting families to choose from. At the time I also was told by the attorney that I would receive a photo of my newborn baby and that the adopting parents were obligated to send me more pictures until my baby turned six months old. I did receive his newborn picture but never received any more pictures after then. I made numerous attempts well before my child reached six months of age to contact the adoption attorney to advise him of this. Initially he said that he would contact the adopting parents and remind them of their obligation to the adoption agreement and that was the last time I spoke with him. He never got back to me about any of it. Needless to say, I was very unhappy and started to question my decision to adopt out my baby. At the time of his birth, my life was a mess. I was using cocaine daily and couldn’t take good enough care of myself let alone a baby. I already had two children. A son and daughter who at that time we’re 18 and 12. My oldest son was an honor student and excelled in football and my daughter was active in the school choir and was also a cheerleader. Both of them had everything they wanted and needed and more. And anyone who knew them would never have guessed that their parents were drug addicts, but we were. Early in my addiction I was what is called a functional addict but as the disease progressed, my life became very unmanageable. So when I found out that I was pregnant, my first thought was ok, you can do this. But that couldn’t have been further from the truth because being pregnant didn’t stop me from using drugs. In fact, my drug use escalated. So at about 5 1/2 months into my pregnancy and after careful consideration, I decided that the most loving thing that I could do for my unborn child was to adopt him out to a loving family that could give him the life that he deserved that I was incapable of giving him. I’ve regretted my decision to adopt him out ever since. I have gone through a lot of life changing events since then as well. I’ve battled stage 4 breast cancer and other health problems. And I recently was in a coma. And I’m a recovering drug addict . Please help me find my son! Thank you
