I asked a employee of Catholic Charities in Jersey City, Newark or Patterson to facilitate the adoption. She said it was done privately with a private judge present at the time I left the hospital to give my daughter away. The hospital was on the Jersey Shore somewhere. I have contacted Catholic Charaties and have gotten no cooperation. Supposidly the family who adopted her had a husband who was a lawyer, they were catholic and they had 4 or 5 children previously. I now, dont know what to believe. The name that sticks in my mind is something like Hawlk or Halck? However I dont know if these details are correct. I paid for the hospital bill with cash. They offered to pay, but I refused. I used a false name in the hospital, Anne Tobias or Tobia I think. The name I gave my daughter was Mary Tobias. I believe the records were sealed. I contacted catholic charities and the adoption agency that did the final adoption, but was told that they would not or could not help.
