I was born with a twin sister on April 30, 1957. My sister allegedly died on May 3, 1957 at the hospital of our birth - Beth Israel, in Newark, NJ. I have her birth certificate (Susan Lucretia Reich) but there is no Death Certificate. A notation on the remaining hospital records indicates the date of her death. Her existence was ordered a secret by my dad (a doctor at the hospital) and my mother never saw her other daughter. Mom was told the second twin was sick, or handicapped, and that "it was best for nature to take its course." My sister probably did die, but the fact that there is no legal record leads me to wonder if perhaps something else happened.
