My husband and I adopted a newborn son on Sept. 10‚ 1980. Our son was born on August 16‚ 1980 and we adopted him through Family and Children’s Service in Long Branch‚ Monmouth County‚ NJ. I put the surname of ’Howard’ in the search because when we were in the process of filing the final adoption papers for court‚ where our son’s name was supposed to be they put ’Baby Howard’. When my husband brought this to the attention of the secretary at the law firm‚ she quickly took the papers away‚ but I had already commited the name to memory. That name might not mean anything at all‚ but one never knows! I do know that my son’s birth mother was 20 yrs. old at the time of his birth and the birth father was 43. The birth father had 2 boys and 2 girls at the time from a previous relationship. That is about all the information we have. My son always expressed interest in finding his birth mother‚ up until he was 18‚ when we gave him what little information we had. That seemed to satisfy him and he never pursued looking. I have never stopped thinking of his birth mom‚ especially on my son’s birthday and at holidays. Since it’s Christmas‚ I am once again thinking of her. I think my son would like to meet her‚ but deep down is afraid that she doesn’t want to see him. I know that I would love to meet her and tell her ’Thank you’ for the most wonderful gift in the whole world. I hope that somewhere out there‚ there will be a match. My son is a wonderful person who now is in a serious relationship with a young woman whom I adore. I just can’t stop thinking about his birth mom who should be able to share in his life‚ and his future which will hopefully include children‚ which‚ in turn‚ would be HER grandchildren‚ also!
