Looking for my Maternal Grandfather.. My mother (and family) never knew who her father was.. She was born Mary Margaret Ervine-Selby-Svoboda in Denver‚ CO on 19-Feb-1928. She was married to William Anthony Svoboda in Mitchell‚ NE 16-Oct-1950. She had four children Marilyn (1952)‚ Stephen (me) (1955)‚ Gary‚ (1957) and Sharon (1959). She died in Kingman‚ AZ 24-Jul-2018. Her mothers name was Lillian Jane Ervine born 15-Apr-1908 in Ireland. Her biological Father was James Harbison Ervine (1874 - 1933). Her biological Mother was Eliza Jane Donaldson (1877 - 1908). She had five Brothers Alexander Ervine (1902 - 1989)‚ John Ervine (1903 - 1983)‚ Robert Ervine(1904 - 1989)‚ William Ervine (1905 - 1971) and Albert Ervine (1907 - 1996). Her biological Mother died (1908) shortly after her birth before her family came to the US (1912). Her Biological Father re-married Margaret E Graham (1886 - 1971). They settled in Hemingford or Alliance NE. Lillian Jane Ervine-Selby had four children - Mary Margaret Ervine-Selby-Svoboda (1928)‚ Lyle Ervine (1929 - adopted out)‚ Phyllis Selby (1933) and Larry F Selby (1948). She lived in Gering‚ NE and died in Scottsbluff‚ NE 13-Feb-2002. In an Affidavit 25-Aug-1983‚ Lillian indicates: She came to the United States in approximately 1912 and was made a Naturalized citizen of the US in Gering‚ NB on 27-Apr-1943. She is the natural mother of Mary Margaret Ervine-Selby-Svoboda born 19-Feb-1928 in Denver‚ CO at the home of her parents James and Margaret Ervine 4045 Meade St‚ Denver‚ CO. Both Mr. and Mrs. Ervine are now deceased. A doctor was in attendance but she does not recall the name of the doctor. She states Mary Margaret Ervine-Selby-Svoboda was born out of wedlock. She does not know the name of the natural father. After her birth Mary Margret Ervine-Selby-Svoboda lived with Lillian’s parents James and Margaret Ervine until completion of high school in approximately 1946. She married Harley Franklin Selby 8-Dec-1930 in Gering NE. and they contributed to the support of Mary Margaret while she attended public schools. Lillian stated that her parents generally took charge of Mary Margaret Ervine-Selby-Svoboda immediately after her birth.
