Looking for my birth grandparents. My mother was born as Illynn Yarnell and her adopted name was Catherine Elaine Stegeman. Her married name was Elaine Stegeman Danforth. She was born at The Willows on 14 April 1916 in Kansas City‚ MO. The adoption record is filed in the courthouse in Sully County‚ SD. As she was adopted by Samuel B and Ida M Stegeman of Gettysburg‚ SD. The story I was told was that my adopted grandfather had a friend from medical school that delivered babies at The Willows (home for unwed mothers) and he found my mother for the Stegemans. When my mother was born‚ my adopted grandmother took a train from SD to Kansas City to pick up my mother. My mother was 8 days old when she went to South Dakota.
