My mother always thought that she was adopted because the family had no baby pictures of her. On a 1930 census record it says she was the adopted grandaughter of Mattie Seay Ashby. Dorothy Madelyn (Mae) Bland’s parents were Gladys Ashby Bland (Mrs. Ashby’s daughter and George Dewey Bland (her son-in-law) who lived with Mrs. Ashby at the time in Chickasaw County, Mississippi. I know that Mrs. Ashby also lived in Blue Mountain, MS before she moved to Chickasaw County.
