Birthmother and her family Kristin’s birthmother was born in 1952 and grew up in a medium sized city. She was Catholic and at the time of the pregnancy had completed one year of nursing She hoped to eventually receive her R.N. Birthmother’s parents were married and living together at the time of the pregnancy. They were both Catholic. Birthmother’s father was described as a large and nice looking man he was 43 at the time of the pregnancy, lie was 5’ 10" tall, with a stocky build, dark brown hair and blue eyes, lie worked in a wholesale sales position for a large company. Birthmother’s mother was also 43 at that time, had a high school education and had worked as a cashier in a grocery store. She was 5‘ tall, with a medium build, dark brown hair and hazel eyes. She was described as a very attractive woman. The worker described both of birthmother’s parents as being personable and friendly, and stated that they had no medical problems. Birthmother’s parents both had high school diplomas. Birthmother had six sisters and no brother. The sisters ranged in age from 22 to 6 none were married or had children at the time of the pregnancy. The oldest sister was working as a special education and elementary teacher. She was 5’ tall, with a petite build, dark brown hair and blue eyes. A sister age 19 was working as a waitress she had a high school education. She was 5’ 2" tall, with a petite build, dark brown hair and brown eyes. A sister age 14 was a ninth grader in high school. She was 5’ tall, with a medium build, dark brown hair and brown eyes A sister age 12 was a seventh grader She was 5’ tall, with a slim build, dark brown hair and brown eyes A sister age 9 was in the fourth grade. She had a medium build with brown hair and brown eyes. The 6 year old sister was in kindergarten. She had a medium build with brown hair and brown eyes. Ail of these sisters were described as being in good health. The eldest sister wore corrective lenses for driving. Birthmother w>as described as a pretty girl with dark hair, pretty facial features and a friendly manner. At the time of the pregnancy she was holding two jobs, basically babysitting for her younger sisters while her mother worked, as well as working a waitress job. She had discontinued her nursing education after one year, without completing it. Birthmother was described as likeable and responsible by the family who employed her for child care and household work during the pregnancy. They found her to be completely satisfactory, and she lived in the home during this time. This position was secured for her by Catholic Charities staff. A social worker also described birthmother as likeable, and stated she felt birthmother displayed growth during her pregnancy, seeing attitudinal change regarding relationships that displayed more maturity. She grew’ closer to her parents during the pregnancy, according to the social worker. Overall birthmother was able to look at the pregnancy and the opportunity to live with a family who she assisted as being a good experience. She did seem to have a positive attitude according to the worker. Intellectually birthmother was described as above average. Apparently she described herself that way, and the worker concurred with that description. Birthmother was hopeful of getting a secretarial job within a month of Kristin’s birth. Birthmother described herself as being 5’ 4" tall, weighing 140 lbs., with a medium build, dark brown hair, hazel eyes and medium coloring She gave her nationality as German, Irish and Swiss She stated she was in good health. Her high school grade point average was in the C range. Birthmother’s paternal grandfather had died six years earlier as a result of emphysema. His widow was still living. Information was given about birthmother’s father’s siblings and their wives. Two of the siblings were twins - doesn’t say if they were identical or fraternal One of birthmother’s paternal uncles had emphysema. Information about birthmother’s maternal grandparents indicated that maternal grandfather was a retired gas station owner and was a controlled borderline diabetic. Information was given about aunts and uncles on this side of the family indicating that all of birthmother’s maternal aunts and uncles wcrc in good health, two of them wore glasses. No other information was given about birthmother’s maternal grandmother. Birthfather and his family Birthfather reported that he was born in 1943, had grown up in a medium sized city. He did not give his nationality. Birthfather was a musician in a traveling band. He was not aware of the pregnancy in the beginning because birthmother found it difficult to locate him. She was eventually able to contact him. However, he never recontacted her after one phone call. He was sent a personal information sheet which he agreed to fill out, but he never returned it The worker did contact him by phone once to encourage him to provide information. He then did return some incomplete personal information at the request of the worker which indicated he had a seventh grade education with a poor grade point average. He was 5’ 10” tall, weighing 150 lbs., with a small build, blond hair, green eyes and fair coloring he self-reported that he had no medical problems. At the time of the pregnancy he was married and had two children, but refused to give any information regarding the children except to state that they were in excellent health. I le did not give their ages He stated that he was adopted himself, and did not know anything about his history I le reported that he did not know how to locate his adoptive lather, who was apparently not living with the adoptive mother at the time. Collateral contact who knew birthfather at the time of the pregnancy told the social worker that birthfathcr had been having “some problems mentally," and that birthfather’s wife and mother were hoping to be able to commit birthfather to a state hospital for a while. No further information was provided by this collateral person regarding the nature of the mental problems, and birthfather was never made aware of this collateral report. Neither birthfather nor the collateral individual ever recontacted the agency to provide further information about the alleged mental problems birthfather was having or the follow up, if any.
