Baby girl born 8 July 1921, Detroit. Parents unknown, her birth was hidden as in spite it was a scandal back then. Record in book of printed births meticulously cut out. Baby wound up in possession of a Mr. And Mrs. Guy C Burton of Detroit. Burton’s place baby in local paper and a 100 dollar adoption fee. A Mary Worley of Detroit signed false adoption papers at the Burton’s dining room table and pays 100.00. Months later the Worley’s have a fight and Mrs.Worley abandoned the baby and her husband. The baby was named Mary Francis Worley. Mr. Worley not knowing what to do, turned the baby over to what was then The Michigan Children’s Aid Society. The baby had to have surgery at about age 1 due to an impacted bowel. Mrs.Worley returns home asking where "her baby"is? Mr. Worley explains. Mrs Worley petitions the court and is denied being ruled an unfit mother by a Judge Hulbert. This story made several newspapers. Shortly after a Mr and Mrs Clarence McGowin originally of the Toledo Ohio area who were working and living in Detroit at the time legally adopted the baby around 18mos old. Eventually moving back to Toledo,Ohio. They named her Evelyn Irene McGowin. Evelyn eventually married Mr.Harry E Taylor of Toledo (originally from Fisk, Missouri) they had 3 sons and a daughter. Youngest son stillborn. Their daughter is my mother. My grandma never owned a birth certificate only an adoption paper... it may say Wayne Co Michigan or Lucas Co Ohio. We have done my DNA and also my grandfather’s as he is alive and well back in Missouri at the astounding age of 107! This has allowed us to separate all DNA from my grandmother. So far there’s only one match. A Mrs. Elizabeth Wreford Vasiu of Michigan. I’ve sent an ancestry email and a regular email with no response. We are not looking for anything but who my grandma actually belonged to and if she ever had any biological family and what nationality? My grandmother passed in 2009. All she ever wanted was to know her last name and if she every had a half sibling. Anyone with any information please please reach out. Thank you! Thank you
