Mary Marcia Ruhl gave birth to a son on or about March 17, 1966 at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland. She was 19 & unmarried. The baby’s father was an American soldier stationed in Bonn, Germany. Mary wanted & hoped to have children when her circumstances improved. She married in 1977, but was unable to become pregnant because her tubes had closed due to scarring. Mary’s mother & older sister sent letters & photos to the adoption agency & hoped & prayed that the child would make contact. Most family members were not told that Mary had borne a child. After years of painful, fruitless hope & effort, Mary decided to destroy the records of correspondence with the adoption agency in hopes of relieving her pain. She was selling the family’s home in Woodbury, Tennessee to relocate to Phoenix, Arizona 2007. Mary has closed the option to continue what she considered the hopelessly painful & fruitless search for her son. She still mourns the loss of her only child. I saw my nephew in the hospital nursery only briefly & none of us were able to hold him. Mary & I (her sister) are still living. Our parents have passed. Please request that our baby be informed that birth relatives still grieve & would celebrate reconnecting with him.
