Adoption paperwork says name was Richard Allen Norris. Montgomery County Welfare paperwork Case# 10497-1A says name was Allen Nash. Born 5 lbs‚ 5 oz on either 5/29/55 or 5/30/55. There are two birth certificates. Appears that infant had been in foster care for a short period of time before adoption. Caroline County‚ MD Circuit Court handled the adoption. Interlocutory Decree issued on 6/25/56 to adopted parents and decree of finalized adoption occurred on 10/9/56. Infant was taken to the Damascus Clinic in Montgomery County for checkups. Birth Certificate says District of Columbia. Welfare Board’s paperwork says DOB 5/30/55. Dr. Elaine L. Goodman was the Psychologist that handled the case. Certificate of Live Birth says 5/29/55 at 7:22pm‚ but adopted parent was the supplier of this information. Physician at live birth was Robert E. Stadelman‚ MD out of Washington‚ D.C. Place of birth listed on Cert. of Live Birth was District of Columbia. Name on this document is John H. Crandall‚ Chief Vital Records Division. Story goes: Supposedly born at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Bethesda‚ MD either May 29‚ 1955 or May 30‚ 1955 at 7:22 pm. He was 5 lbs 5 oz‚ 18" long‚ head was 13"‚ and chest circumference was 1 3/4. His mother was 36 weeks pregnant when he was born. My father heard a few stories over the years about his birth mother. One was that she was around 17 years old and that her father would not let her keep the child‚ the birth father was from West Virginia‚ and she later had other children by possibly a different man. The other story was that she was a school teacher from Canada and maybe just here in the US for a short time but was too old to keep him. A story I heard as I grew up was that she was the daughter of a Naval Officer or someone high up in the Navy or other military branch and that she was forced by her father to give up the child. This would make sense with the place of birth being Walter Reed... My father also was told by his adoptive mother at one point that his birth mother may have lived at one point in Rockville‚ MD. In doing his DNA‚ we have found that he strongly resembles DNA matches with the last names of Houser‚ Stone‚ and Young. Many leads have come to a halt due to matches not having much of their own family history information. We are searching for my father’s paternal and maternal biological father‚ mother and any siblings he may have.
