I was born April 17, 1979 in Baltimore,MD. I don’t know much about my birth parents. I guess they were both Vietnamese. I was told that my mother was from a strict Buddhist family and she stayed with a white couple while she was pregnant. Like most adoptees I wonder about my parents periodically, and they tend to come to mind on my birthday. That’s today! Happy Birthday me! Do my biological parents ever wonder about me? Has it occurred to them to look for me? Do they ever go on adoption reunion websites like this? Well if they do, here’s an update on me: I was adopted by a married couple: a Japanese guy from LA and a white woman from Indiana. I was raised first in Baltimore and then in Sacramento, CA. I had a normal middle-class upbringing with a Catholic twist. Did you worry that whoever adopted me would be weird or freaky or anything? Don’t worry they were fine. My adoptive parents were distant and not very affectionate, but at least they were affluent. I got a Nintendo for Christmas in 2nd grade and they paid for college, cars, insurance, and things like that. They made me go to Catholic church, which I mostly hated, but at least they instilled in me some sort of values and at least a religious "culture." Elementary school was fine. I was pretty smart back then but I think I would have been cooler if I was more athletic. I loved playing basketball and soccer and football and things like that. I wasn’t picked last for teams usually more like 3rd to last. Even though I was the short Asian kid with glasses, don’t worry no one ever beat me up! I’ve always been a little weird, but never an outcast. No one bullied me or anything. There were times I was even considered cool! High school was ok, but I got a little rebellious. I started doing drugs and drinking. But I was in a cool band! I got really interested in music. Mostly alternative, classic rock, indie, metal. Do you like music? What kind do you listen to? I took honors and AP classes and barely passed them. I was lazy! I was either the smart kid in the smart classes or the smart kid in the smart classes. I got kicked out of high school sophomore year for drugs, but I ended up going to a pretty decent college. College was a great time for me. I studied English, philosophy, history, and education. Did you go to college? Are you interested in those things? I met my wife in college. We ended up having sex and stuff and she got pregnant. So we got married. My wife now ex wife is pretty cool. She’s Filipino (sorry if you wanted my to marry a traditional Vietnamese girl. There’s not as many out here, and most of them are stuck working at nail salons.). She was pretty and nice and smart. She’s also a good mother. But we ended up getting divorced. The marriage was actually pretty cool for about 5 years. I got a good job, we bought house, had another kid. But you know how relationships just end up changing for whatever reason. Or maybe they don’t change enough. So it goes. The divorce was of course difficult at first, but relatively speaking, very civil. We’re on good terms now and we share the kids. Overall, things have gone well. I have a decent job. I "own" a house. I have 2 cool kids (Vietnamese/Filipino). My exwife is pretty cool. I’m not a psychopath, criminal, drug addict, sexual predator or anything like that. So hopefully that makes you happy. I enjoy NBA basketball, literature, indie rock, cheap beer, camping, the internetz. I turned out to be ultra liberal. I once voted for Ralph Nader and had I not been so lazy would have voted for Kucinich in the primaries. Is that how you thought I’d turn out? I’m not really actively looking for you, but like I said, it crosses my mind every once in awhile. I wonder if you wonder about me, so I thought I put this out there for you. I’m not sure what would happen if you actually tried to contact me, but I’m open to the possibility. Well, I’m going to get ready for Mariana’s "Soccer Pet Party" now. She’s my youngest daughter and it’s her birthday party today. She’s 5! Have a nice day!
