The family story is that my great grandmother (a Native American from Yucatan) had pneumonia and the people who took her daughter‚ Mercedita (who was then about 1 1/2-2 years old) to care for her during her illness never gave her back and could not be located. Mercedes Garcia’s father is Cecilio Garcia (1906-1986) seems to have kidnapped her. Mercedes Garcia is Mexican/Native American. There is a connection with the Valles/Valley family that lived in Yucatan and in New Orleans. Mercedes Garcia’s marriage took place in Aguascalientes‚ Mexico at the age of 16 to Jose Gonzalez. Ana Margara is listed as her mother. That is part of my great grandmother’s name. Later‚ in some places‚ ROMO was added to her name‚ probably from her stepmother. Our family had heard that they had moved to Texas‚ but no one is sure if they stayed in Aguascalientes‚ New Orleans or somewhere in Texas. Mercedes Garcia had a number of children: 1) Lidia Gonzalez Garcia (b. 1937)‚ 2) Elena Gonzalez Garcia (b. 1939 m. Juan Antonio ORTEGA RAMOS)‚ (3) Jose Gonzalez (b. 1941)‚ and 4) Mercedes Gonzalez Garcia (b. 1947 m. Leopoldo Cruz Morales). All 4 children were born in Aguascalientes‚ Mexico.
