My half-sister was born in the New Orleans area, most likely between 1949 and 1951, but it could have also been 1948 and 1952. I do not know the hospital name. Her birth mother (also my mother) was from northern Minnesota, and was sent to New Orleans to have her baby and give her up for adoption because her parents urged her to do so. My mother’s maiden name was Dolores Kirkemo. A family friend named Kay Molohan from the Washington D.C. area either worked at, or knew of a hospital in New Orleans that would take my mother, who also spent months there during her pregnancy volunteering at the hospital prior to giving birth. It may have been a hospital that especially welcomed and ministered to unwed mothers.
