The state of Louisiana had/has a closed record act and all we could get were some identifying details. Her mother was married with 2 older children, a boy and a girl by her then husband. They got divorced or separated and then her mom became pregnant with my mom (Jan) by another man and kept her for 18 months. Then her mother and the husband got back together and he couldn’t except her (my mom) as his own. That’s when she was given to the orphanage and her mother said that her biological name was Janelle or Janette Ruth Gauthier. Some of the records show Janette instead of Janelle, but she went by Jan. Her mother also requested that she be adopted by a French family. Long was her adopted name. She was born in New Orleans or Baton Rouge. I can’t remember which one and sadly she passed away in 2012. She would have loved to find out more about her heritage. It was something that always plagued her and she tried several times to find out anything. I do not possess her birth certificate either.
