I am searching on behalf of my mum who now lives in Canada. She would like to find her first born son. Her name is Sandra Jackson Irving and came to Gillingham from Glasgow in 1960 to give birth. The father’s name was Roy Sharp also from Glasgow I believe. He wanted nothing to do with the birth so my mum was on her own and with the potential difficulties in Glasgow at the time decided it was best to come to Gillingham to have the baby. She was 22 years old at the time and met the birth parents while she was pregnant. They were a few years older than her - perhaps in their 30’s. She said they were very nice and she felt she was giving her son the chance of a stable, loving environment to grow up in. It hurt her greatly though to do so. She was only able to hold her son for a short while after birth before the adopted parents took him - as was agreed. He was born in July - she thinks early July but isn’t entirely sure. She also thinks it may have been at the Medway Naval Hospital - again though not entirely sure. My mum will be 83 years old in January and the son she had to give up so painfully will be 60 next July. She buried this for many years (due to feeling ashamed - as well as also feeling that it would be best for her adopted child to not have his life disrupted by her searching for him) and only told myself and my 2 younger brothers that we have a half brother 2 years ago. It would make her very happy to make contact and to know that her first born son had a good life.
