My great grandmother and her sister were taken away from their mother. The story is that her mother was arrested during a carnival in May 1918 for being drunk‚ and my Grandmother was placed in the Orphans home in 9/28/1918. She was enrolled in Topeka‚ KS School 1/28/1918 with the name Lena Nye. I have some information on the probate case when she was removed from the home. The orphans register added Thompson to her name‚ however this is her teachers name on the school records we have from Topeka. It changed her record from Lena Nye to Lena Thompson Nye. She was adopted to Mary E Gregory in 1919‚ whom later turned her over to Beloit. I'm looking for Lena's parents‚ and her sister‚ whom she believed to be Charlotte. I found potential parents‚ but nothing confirms the two daughters outside of census records.
